Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf emphasized on Tuesday Algeria’s commitment, under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, to promote collective African efforts for the prevention and resolution of conflicts on the continent. This statement was made during the opening of an international conference on the Algerian revolution and its African dimensions.
In a speech read by Abdelhamid Ahmed Khodja, the ministry’s inspector general, Mr. Attaf highlighted Algeria’s loyalty to its African identity, illustrated by its unwavering support for just causes on the continent. He affirmed that Algeria defends these causes at all levels to achieve a comprehensive and integrated renaissance, involving the talents and efforts of all Africans to elevate the continent to new heights of development.
The minister also emphasized that « loyalty is a fundamental value of Algeria, both for its leadership and its people, » particularly towards those who supported its struggle for independence. He stressed the importance the president places on the memory of the Algerian people’s struggle, thus acknowledging Algeria’s gratitude towards its African and international friends who believed in the justice of its cause.
Mr. Attaf recalled that the Algerian revolution, which resonated globally, was primarily a humanitarian struggle, defending noble values such as the right to life, the rejection of racism, and the right of peoples to self-determination. He also expressed the need to support the Sahrawi people, who are awaiting the exercise of their right to self-determination, in order to definitively close the chapter on colonialism in Africa.
The minister underscored solidarity with the Palestinian people, who are facing unacceptable violence. « The Palestinian people need the support of our continent and all nations that believe in freedom and dignity more than ever, » he stated, calling for the restoration of their rights and the establishment of a sovereign state with Jerusalem as its capital.
Finally, Ahmed Attaf reaffirmed that Algeria, proud of its African identity, will continue to promote continental unity to address the multiple challenges threatening the security and stability of African countries while supporting desired development efforts.
