This Tuesday in Tunis, Algeria has taken a significant step by securing the position of director of the Arab Information and Program Exchange Center of the Union of Arab States’ Radios, a prestigious role based in Algiers. Adel Kansous, a former journalist and assistant to the general director of Algerian Television, was chosen by consensus during the Union’s General Assembly, following the withdrawal of the Egyptian candidacy—a strategic maneuver that has strengthened ties between Algeria and its Arab partners. This decision, made prior to the 45th ordinary session of the Assembly, attests to the confidence placed in this emerging leader.
Adel Kansous’s appointment is the result of negotiations led by Mohamed Baghali, the general director of Algerian Television, with his Arab counterparts. These efforts, supported by public authorities, have once again reinforced Algeria’s influential position on the regional media stage.
This recognition goes beyond the directorship of the Arab Exchange Center; indeed, Algeria also retains its seat on the Executive Council of the Union of Arab States’ Radios. Algerian Television, under Baghali’s leadership, continues to play a crucial role within the executive office for urgent matters.
The election of Adel Kansous as the director of the Arab Information Exchange Center is a strong signal of the esteem in which Algeria is held by its peers and reinforces its position within Arab cultural and media policies. This advancement illustrates not only Algeria’s commitment to its values and traditions but also its aspiration to play a key role in the development of media exchanges in the Middle East and North Africa.
