The President of the Algerian Republic, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, addressed participants on Saturday at the \u201cGlobal Africa Tech 2026\u201d event, held at the Abdelatif Rahal International Conference Center in Algiers. The message, delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Sifi Ghrieb, provided an opportunity for the head of state to reaffirm Algeria\u2019s digital ambitions across the African continent, positioning the country as a key partner in Africa\u2019s technological transformation.<\/p>\n
In his address, President Tebboune stressed that \u201cAlgeria, by virtue of its influential economic and geostrategic position in Africa, is ready and able to play the role of both an active player and a center of excellence in strengthening Africa\u2019s digital sovereignty.\u201d This statement reflects a clear determination to move beyond intentions and toward the concrete implementation of structuring projects. The head of state further specified that Algeria, \u201cwhile reaffirming its full readiness to mobilize its telecommunications infrastructure capabilities and human expertise to achieve this ambitious goal, is translating its intentions into concrete actions through exemplary initiatives currently being implemented on the ground, including the trans-Saharan fiber-optic backbone project.\u201d This large-scale initiative, aimed at connecting several African countries through a fiber-optic network crossing the Sahara, illustrates the continental scope of Algeria\u2019s commitment.<\/p>\n
President Tebboune also framed this approach within a multilateral cooperation perspective, noting that Algeria\u2019s willingness to serve this unified African dynamic \u201cis demonstrated through hosting this event, in alignment with the objectives of initiatives led by the African Union, the International Telecommunication Union, as well as major continental programs such as NEPAD and Smart Africa.\u201d The organization of this event in Algiers thus reflects the country\u2019s ambition to position itself as a platform for dialogue and technological convergence at the continental level.<\/p>\n
Finally, the head of state expressed hope that this meeting would serve as \u201can interactive space for consultation and a platform for exchanging visions and ideas, as well as sharing expertise and best practices, with a view to developing a unified technological strategy capable of achieving our common goal of an interconnected, strong, and digitally sovereign Africa.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
